By Royal Appointment
It’s official. For the first time in 68 years, the Open Championship is coming home to Royal Portrush: 18-21 July 2019, in what will be the biggest sporting event Northern Ireland has ever seen.
After the success of the Irish Open in 2012 and with over 200,000 golf visitors set to grace these shores, the powers that be have chosen the scenic North Antrim Coast to host the big one: The British Open.
A hole in one for Northern Ireland Tourism
Cafes, restaurants, hotels, pubs, local attractions; the hospitality industry has well and truly hit a hole in one with this announcement. They’ll be busy making sure their wares are world-class ready so they can have a slice of the expected £70m revenue it will create.
The perfect course for play
The exquisite Royal Portrush links course provides a challenging but fair game, there’s little room for error so you’ve got to be on form. If you are, you’ll excel, if not you will suffer for it. That’s what’s so interesting about it. It doesn’t matter who is at the top of the leaderboard: here, it’s all about how you play on the day.
World Class Ambassadors
There’s no doubt our homegrown talent has inevitably had a huge part to play in bringing the game home.
Let’s just hope they’re on top of their game when the world is watching in 2019.
